Moving On 8/30/11

Station 95 wants to issue a thank you to Firefighter Richards for his time and dedication to our engine company. Firefighter Richards has been accepted into the resident firefighter program within our district (District 9).

Firefighter Richards starts with his new station, Station 92 in September. Thank you again Firefighter Richards and we wish you the best of luck in your pursuit of a career in the fire service.

Also moving on, but not pictured is Firefighter Regalado, who is moving outside of our district boundaries. Thank you Firefighter Regalado for your service to District 9.

Physical Agility Test 8/27/11

Today was the physical agility test for those who wish to become recruits and then ultimately volunteer firefighters for District 9. Unfortunately, not everyone passed this year, we had 2 fails. But both were encouraged to train hard and try again in the spring.

Recruits this year had to climb to the top of the 100' aerial ladder at a 70 degree angle. In the past before the new ladder, recruits climbed the 65' ladder at a 70 degree angle.

Recruits then were put through the "Black-Out Maze", where they wore full turnouts, air pack and mask, with a hood turned backwards to block their vision.

Good luck to the new recruits of Region 9 class 2011-2.

Brush Fire 8/24/11

Crews of Spokane County Fire District 9, City of Spokane Fire and DNR responded to a brush fire off of Indian Trail Road and north of Blackhawk Road. The fire was started by two stolen and abandoned cars. Crews from Brush 95, 91 and Attack 93, along with City Brush 16 were able to quickly lay both a wet-line and hand-line around the entire fire.

In this picture on the right side is the crew of Attack 93 flowing water into the stolen Volkswagon. In the background and to the center-left, Firefighter Anderson along with Lieutenant Borders flow water into the stolen Ford SUV.

KREM has the story. http://www.krem.com/news/Stolen-cars-set-on-fire-sparks-brush-fire-in-Northwest-Spokane-128377183.html?gallery=y&img=0&c=y#gallery-image

The fire appears to be started from a stolen truck that was abandoned in the area. Crews battled thick brush and uphill climbs to fight this brush fire which was about 5 acres. More photo's will be posted if available.

Thanks to Lt. Varner who found this picture of Medstar 4 on 9/11. This was the helicopter at our open house and a cool piece of history to see.

Station 95 Open House

Today was the open house for Station 95. We had a ton of fun. We were joined by the new 100' aerial ladder from Station 91, a vintage ambulance from AMR, a new ambulance, Engine 91, and the star of the day a helicopter from Medstar. We had a great turnout and we were excited to meet the citizens of the district and show them our station.

Medstar coming in for a landing.

This helicopter is special because it was in Washington D.C. when 9/11 occurred.

Some of our company with vintage firefighting helmets from countries such as Germany, Russia, Italy and France.

 Beautiful 5-Mile

Smokey needed a hug and Firefighter Richards was happy to oblige.

More photos will be coming. We had a great time this year. Thanks to the citizens of District 9 for allowing us to opportunity to serve you.
